Lisa and Simon`s Around the World Tour
Left Rio taking a 4 hour public bus journey direct to Sao Paulo. Forget National Express, these buses are the business. Thing first class on a plane without the trolley dollies. Beautiful countryside and pretty good roads made for a reasonable journey.
Arrived in the sprawling mass that is Sao Paulo late afternoon, with a taxi to the hotel. If a drivers aggression increases with the size of an urban area, as the third largest metrolpolis in the world, this is about as bad as it gets. A real white knucke ride through rush hour traffic. Never experienced anything like it. Came to a screeching halt, ditched the bags and straight out.
Went up to the top of Edificio Italia, which at 41 storeys is SPs tallest building. Mainly offices with a swanky restaurant and piano bar at the top with viewing terrace. SP is pretty grotty at street level (highest crime rate in Brazil, large homeless population etc) but you cannot fail to appreciate the beaty of the place from above. We enjoyed the incredible views of the City from the top, but felt a little out of place in the posh bar wearing our Rio gear (shorts and flip flops).
Managed to get lost on the way to the restaurant we had booked - not a good idea. But survived and enjoyed a good (and cheap) Italian meal. No steak!!
