Mount Cook was our next stop and once again, a long drive was ahead. After around 4 hours (we think) we got to the last campsite before reaching the base of Mount Cook. The weather was terrible, we could have been in Middlesbrough of the North Yorkshire Moors for all we knew, as you couldn't see more than 25 metres in front of you, never mind catch a glimpse of Mount Cook. We camped overnight and checked out the weather forecast for the next couple of days which was bleak at best. Still not being able to see Mt. Cook, we decided that it may be better to leave and not let the weather get the better of us, as the East Coast was once again getting some sun. So we headed to what would be our final stop in NZ, Christchurch.
We thought we'd catch a movie at the cinema when we arrived, there was a new xmas movie out that Lisa wanted to see, called Four Holidays. So we saw a chick-flick for once, maybe Ben might realise that somebody doesn't have to die in a movie for it to be enjoyable. Anyway it was good and got us in the Christmas spirit. The following day we went to the Antartic Centre which was really cool, it's where most scientific expeditions to Antartica, leave from. There are loads of Antartica-like area's inside, such as the storm, where you go and get blown around by freezing cold winds, to simulate a storm on Antarctica. There were lots of stuffed animals from the Island and there was a small number of Blue Penguins who had been rescued from the wild and were given a new home. The best part was a vehicle that is used to travel around Antartica, we can't remember what it was called. There is a mini-assault course out the back of the centre, where you get taken around and get the experience of being in a vehicle on Antartica, it's bumpy to say the least!
We also finally got out TV in the campervan working after 24 days and so tuned into another xmas movie to get us in the spirit! The we said goodbye to NZ as we had to catch a plane to Oz for xmas.
