Lisa -loo and Jim-Jam get released into the wild
Stayed in nice little huts right on the beach, looking out onto the island where they filmed 'The Beach'. I could see that Phi Phi and surrounding area was beautiful , but the sun made a sporadic appearance and so could not fully appreciate it.
The beach we were on didn't give away anything about the damage caused by the Tsunami. The main harbour does, with rubble still visable along the sand, and a large area of nothing where the boats are kept. They seem to have done an amazing job at rebuilding, because Jim said it def looked different to last time he was there.
I was really looking forward to having my Uni girlies out here. The first few nights it was just us four, but then Anthony mysteriously took off after only one night wothout sayign goodbye. Prehaps he saw his flesh mountain in the distance (she was on the same boat over with us) and went to bump uglies again....who knows.
SO the second night just Jenni, Jim and I went over to the main town - which involves a short taxiboat trip from Longbeach, where we were staying. Had a great night :an amazing fish meal, with us girls sharing a few bottles of wine,( Hadn't had any the whole time i'd been in Asia, so definitley did the job!), and heading to the Apache bar where they put on fireshows. they are really impressive, especially the small kids, who can' be any older than my sister and have no fear at all.
The next day Jenni left to go and stay in the town with her mum and stapdad who were now there. Jim and I waited with baited breasts for the girls to arrive. ..
When they did it was possibly one of the funniest entrances i've ever seen. Spotted Laura first, then BO and then Val and Corn. Ive never seen them all look so haggered and pissed off. Both Corn and Laura had wheely trolly cases which would have been fine, but they had not expected the mountain climb to get to Longbeach! Because the weather was deteriorating rapidly, the taxi boats would not come up to the beach, and would onyl be prepared to drop them off at the next beach along. The next beach, as in the one behind the mountainous foliage... Oh how i laughed. Laura's bag had exploded open half way down the sheer face and she had to backtrack back up to collect everything and carry the suitcase in her hands to hold it together, whilst simultaneously trying to not die.
Then as soon as they settled and joined us in the restaurant for lunch, the heavens opened and I have never seen anything like it. Within seconds we had to dodge flying furniture. I narrowly missed being pronged in the eye with the unfriendly end of an umbrella. They were not impressed at all. We blame Val, who takes Crowded House too seriously and always takes the (sh1t) weather with her!
So after naps and the suchlike, the boats seemed to beb back in business so we went over for a night on the town. After dinner we went to the Reggae bar and ordered buckets. Lethal poisonous things they are. Played some pool and waited for Jenni to come and meet us for a bit. Then we watched soem Thai boxing, and after that everythingis a bti of a blur. Vaguely remember danicng with Laura on the stage - which was in fact the ring - and next thing we know we have got boxing gloves and helmuts on and are beign encouraged to kill each other. My hat kept slipping over my eyes, but when I pushed it up, all I could see was Laura comign towards me lie a bull. Slightly scared. But managed to live, although it probably explains why I couldn't walk properly the next day.
Tryign to get a boat home at 2:30am was tricky. In that there were none. Us girls had to wait by the boat dock until 6:00am when the first boat could tak eus. I managed to find a piece of tarpaulin somwhere and dragged it under the small shelter we were under. A cat came to join me and curled up asleep next to me, which i thought was cute at the time. How i'd live to regret that....
And so as the seas raged and the winds blew, we waited....I somehow misplaced flip flops (number 2)even though we sat in the same spot for hours... and then continued to wait a bit more.
Finally a guy came to get us to take us back to our beach. Ah we had been saved, but alas, not quite. We were dropped off at the smaller beach and made to walk over the mountain - def seemed like a mountain still drunk,at 6am, with no flip flops.
Crawled into bed, stipped off wet clothes and placed myself (in a towel, dont worry!) between COrn and Val. Slept like a dead person. Woke up covered in flea bats. If it hadn't been for that pesky cat....!!!
Spent the day inbetween bed and beach and made up minds to leave the next day and go to Koh Pagnagn....
