We set off on the full-luxury ultra-modern bus from Puerto Madryn and settled into our seats. Alter watching one film and having some snacks brought round, the TV inexplicably broke, leaving us with the option of going upstairs to watch the working TVs with the lesser kulaks, or staying in our seats downstairs staring out of the window. We chose the latter. Dinner was served after a pit stop of 30 minutes, where we got off the bus and noticed how warm it was. Winter is officially over!We eventually pulled into Buenos Aires at around 8am, after being woken up at 6am for coffee. Why! Carlos was most displeased. We immediately searched for buses leaving to Ururguay, but found that they all went the other way than we wanted, and all at inconvenient times. Eventually we got in a cab, and went to the ferry port where we got a ferry to Colonia del Sacremento. The crossing took 3 hours and we got progressively warmer as the boat approached Ururguay.

We eventually docked and managed to get into the town. We were sweltering, as were were still dressed in our cold weather gear, and had not anticipated this warmness. We went to one hostel to see if they had rooms (and nearly died from heat exhaustion) only to be told they were full. We tramped around a few more before deciding we had no choice but to check into a posh(ish) hotel. In the mean time, we managed to make a reservation at a cheaper hotel for the next day.

The next day we moved hotels, which was half price and twice as big a room with a really nice balcony. We wandered around a bit before deciding it was too hot so we collapsed in our room. The next day the weather turned, and we had to abandon our plans for shorts and flip flops. We did a nice walking tour around the quaint old cobbled streets and saw lots of old colonial Portugese buildings and museums.

One day Lisa decided to visit the local artisanal market to buy souvenirs. On the way back, a nice friendly dog approached us (a white dog with big black breasts drooping towards the floor). It saw Lisa´s bag full of souvenirs and thought theywere snax. As the dog tried to take a bite out of the bag, Lisa reacted just in time and held the bag up by her head. However the dog was not to be deterred. In a scene causing moment, the dog unexpectedly leapt up and bit the bag out of Lisa´s hand, smashing the pottery gifts inside. Many people stared as we tried to chase the dog to get back the bag with some remaining unbroken gifts inside. Eventually it gave us back the gifts, and settled for eating the carrier bag only.

We had planned to visit Fray Bentos while we were here to see the famous meat factory, but transport times made it impossible to visit. We also meant to go to the capital, Montevideo, but we couldnt be minged. We eventually decided to head back to Buenos Aires having spent a really nice few days in this really cute town.Mark out of 10 = 8

Final thoughts: Really nice weather (at first) and quaint cobbled streets made this our fave place in Uruguay! Next time... Buenos Aires
