We arrived in LA after a 9 hour flight without individual TVs to keep us entertained. Aaaaaaargh. To get to our accommodation, we got a shuttle bus, an 8 seater vehicle with only 2 other people in it. Our driver drove around the airport for another circuit and we joked that he was going to drive around until the van was full! Anyway, 10 minutes and another 2 circuits later, the van was full and we finally left the airport grounds for a long drive to Hollywood! Our hostel was in a prime location opposite the Chinese theatre on Hollywood Blvd where stars leave their handprints in the concrete, however, the rest of Hollywood Blvd seemed to be largely full of tacky weird shops and certainly wasn't glamorous. So we went on a star spotting tour of Beverley Hills and what a ride we had. We saw the houses of Meg Ryan, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Elton Johns new and old house and lots more. We also saw the actress who played Hot Lips Callaghan in MASH walking her dog, Columbo driving his car, the paparazzi waiting for Britney Spears. We also saw a cavalcade of blacked out 4x4 cars which someone claimed to have seen Victoria Beckham in, but our photos suggest a possible Tom Cruise. Judge for yourself. The next day we went to Venice Beach. Ian was disappointed to find that Pamela Anderson doesn't work there any more, but we did see that the lifeguards do actually wear red shorts, white tops and carry plastic rescue floats. The police also drive along the sand in big 4x4 cars. Cool. We were due to get a long distance bus to Las Vegas that night and so we got the metro back to our accommodation to get our bags, but somehow ended up on the wrong line, causing us a delay of 20 minutes. We got to the bus stop 2 minutes before it should have departed, only to see it driving away. Megabus customer services were useless, promising to turn the bus round and then putting us on hold for 10 minutes, before saying it was too late. Travellers - boycott Megabus! A quick bit of re-planning saw us taking a late night greyhound bus to Las Vegas, and 6 hours later the pulsing lights if Las Vegas appeared in the centre of the desert. Las Vegas - now that really is a story!
