The next day was supposed to right a previous wrong for us. A loop from Lo rgues would include the spectacular Grand Canyon de Verdon which we missed last time we were in the region. After a good start rain tried to spoil our fun but Guide Torstem kept up a fair old clip with suitable warnings about reduced grip, the need to complete braking before the bend and to use acceleration more judiciously. In fact the cars electronics were working away in the background and no one seemed to have any issues. After another delightful lunch we emerged into really heavy rain and the decision was taken to abandon the more spectacular and dangerous side of the Canyon so we happily drove to the other side with some quite relieved partners. We were once again thwarted when we were then turned around by, of all things, the road being closed due to a car rally. The canyon will have to wait.
So apart from the driving, always a buzz, the highlight of the day would be dinner at a truffle restaurant. "Chez Bruno" , or the house of chef Bruno, is said to be quite famous allegedly hosting Leonardo DI Caprio only a week earlier and George Cluny was also said to have dined there. Regardless the truffles were quite an experience and by this time the group was really bonding with friendships forming. So a lovely night to cap off a day that threatened to disappoint.
