Today we picked up a hire car to travel out 200 odd km from Vienna to visit the Lippizannas' at home. After a worrying start driving on the wrong side of the road through Vienna, we hit the Autobahn and very quickly the scenery turned into an alpine scene off a chocolate box. We both agreed that it was defiantly the prettiest drive we've ever been on. We arrived at the stud and discovered that it was the extreme opposite to Vienna, where they had a strict no touch rule and no photographing the horses, to getting up close and personal. This included photographs, smoothing, cuddling and kissing, this was the young stallions, the old retired stallions (oldest was 37 and retired for 12 years!) and the mares and foals! The finale was watching the herd of mares with foals at foot being brought in off the pasture for the night. Today is going to take some beating!
