Day 19 Wednesday 26th September. Written by Martin
Slow start to the day after the baseball last night, but not quiet as builders next door today!
Just before 11 set off to get taxi to cross town to Space Needle. After an abortive try with a Uber driver we used Seattle taxi again and were there by 1130.
Space Needle part of complex built to host World Trade in 1962. Very tall and stylish. Rode the outside lift up the side, me not too argh. Views from the top are 360 over the city and Puget Sound. They had see through glass benches which leaned into the main slightly outward leaning winspdow. Sitting down you felt you were falling. You could also stand against the main glass wall. Not fir the faint hearted but a must do. As we sat with a coffee taking in the view the sun started to break through. Very peaceful.
Next down one flight to the rotating glass floor level. To Lyn’s surprise I walked over glass floor, still treading gingerly so not to break glass, and gazing at the views below. Got our first aerial view of Chiully glass sculptures.
Exit through gift shop, lyn bought a striped hippy top and I went on a VR bungee jump from top of Needle....Lyn refused.
Now hungry we went to the Armory, a indoor plaza of food traders. We went British and had pie, mash and peas and Premier Pies with pictures of Matt Le Tissier and Paul Gascoigne. !!! Both pies good, lyn really liked her mac and tillamook cheese pie. Very American twist.
Now full went to Chiully glass. Even for a Luddite like me all the glass sculptures were impressive a maze of shapes and colours. Whole rooms and a garden full of twisty glass. The light shone through the, and made them alive. See the pictures....
Next up we the Musuem of Pop Culture. An intriguing building made of curved coloured metal.shane that the contents were not as impressive as outside. Despite the content of Sc fi, Hendrix, nirvana, horror and more it was quite old fashioned and static. Still we managed to read Hendrix’s own writings, did a scream test and play bass and drums.
Day passing by now so decided to head on the monorail back to Pike Market for food. Decided to go to “best craft store in Seattle”. It wasn’t, but good selection of window stickers with rude words on. Lyn a bit too quiet....
Dinner was much better, Old Stove brewpub on Waterfront. Up there with best meal we had. Lyn had a very generous Waygu beef and me Monkfish. Yum yum. All washed down with a flight of Old Stove craft beers.....Seattle taxi good again and very jolly driver and we discussed proper football. We then crashed.....

Jayne Glad you’re still enjoying, although Martin does like he’s holding onto the glass bench very tightly xxj
