Seattle Tuesday day 18 - 25 th September.
A long lie in and catch up. The full days catching up with us, We decided to go outside city. Choice was ferry across the sound to Bainbridge Island. I planned a route using street car starting a few blocks away. Having discovered the hard way that a bus stop is different to a street car stop we rode to Pioneer Square. We had found the historic old part of the city now decorated with modern art and strange mirrors. Headed from the Square to Washington Ferry where is was a 35 min trip to the Island. Sat on upper deck with sun and saw first views of Mt Ranier floating in the distance.
Bainbridge Island similar in feel to Friday Harbour, a touch of the St Ives. Had a pleasant few hours wandering around the town, Found a super Town and Market store which seemed to have a years stock of fresh food...including a tub of Tillamook limited edition caramel ice cream.....which didn’t last past the Waterfront Park.
Back on Ferry to Seattle. Short walk to SafeCo stadium which is next to Century Field. On route found an old bar full of baseball fans and smoked ribs....yum.
Stadium was for me a bit of a wow, childish excitement! We had great views over the pitch. With the help of some friendly fans and the scoreboard started to understand what was going on. For the record the Mariners beat Oakland 10:8 in the 11 innings.
Back home by streetcar.
