Tuesday day three. - Up early and after continual breakfast checked out of the hotel and made our way to the car hire company and changed the small Kia for a large Kia. Much better. All the cases fit in the boot. Weather is set to be over 70f and cloudless. Making our way to whitefish. This town is at the gateway to glacier Park. 133 miles away. We decided to stop off at the National Bison Range At Moiese about 40 miles from Missoula. We decided to take the longer trail called Red Sleep Mountain Drive , a one way gravel loop that gains 2,000 ft in elevation with switchbacks and 10% grades along the drive. The hire car has yet to forgive me!!! We saw a few bison including one that came off the grassy area onto the road. I was in reverse as they are very large. Thankfully he made his way up the hill and away from us. We saw elk and pronghorn ( a type of deer) The vistas and views were amazing and worth the stress of the driving. It took two hours to get around. We then picked up the 93 heading through Roman and Polson. This brought us to Flathead Lake. More like a sea. Taking the 35 we followed the lake to Big Fork. This is a small settlement that had a very artsy crafty feel and not what I expected. Needing food we stopped and had a Corn Chowder soup with sour dough bread. Followed by an ice cream. Back on the road past Kalispell and a quick stop at michaels craft store and onwards to whitefish. Our accommodation Duck Lodge Inn was lovely. A quick kip and then to get dinner. Found the Northern Brewing Company which is a micro brewery and had sliders and a tasting flight of 5 beers. We had walked to the brewery and the walk home felt very long. So to sleep. A great day again.
