So we arrive in Byron Bay after a very confusing bus ride. The journey was meant to take 2 and a half hours but after an hour and a half after being passed out on the bus from too much goon the night before we arrive. We then find out that we are now in New South Wales, not Queensland and there is a time difference of one hour...so mystery solved. We find our hostel and settle in.
Byron Bay is a very chilled out place, basically nothing there apart from the beach and bars..we are once again very happy! While we were here we took a road trip to a little town called NimBin. It was in the middle of no where and consisted of one street, a street shorter than Chatham High street. Lets just say the people that live there live a very 'Hippy' type of lifestyle.
As I said, there is nothing much to do in Byron Bay so we decided to do the only thing there to do...we decided to treck the 1.5km up to the famous lighthouse! It is famous as it is the most easterly point of Australia you can get.
As you have gathered by now though we can't do anything simply! So imagine this, 4 Brits (Jordan does not like nature treks..) and 2 welsh! Walking up a path that is no wider than a staircase, one side of the path is a hill and the other side is a massive drop of the side of a cliff. The only thing to stop you falling is a wooden railing. So we all stop to take some picture from the lookout as the views are amazing... Panda turns around and screams 'what is that'. Behind us is a massive Comono dragon, about one and a half metres long, just plodding along the path. Bearing in mind we have no where to go as there is the cliff! So we all stand and scream at the thing, even the boys i might add! So we do the only sensible thing in this situation, we jump up onto the wooden railing. So we are hanging over the edge of the cliff while a dragon is plodding along happily!! We lived to tell the tale though, he just carried on walking! This is another killer animal to add to our list though!
When we get to the top of the incline we got to see great views, spotted about 50 dolphins and a couple of sharks. So after all the terror it was actually worth it in the end.
The rest of our time spent in Byron Bay was lazing on the beach and chilling out. At the end of our week in Byron Bay we say a tearful farewell to our welsh family! Leaving them behind until we reunit in Sydney for New Year...
