Hiatus is over again and back to the road we go. Our first day out on the next leg of a never ending adventure had it's moments, both good and bad. Had to pull over before we ever got out of San Antonio to redo the duffel bag before it hit the freeway. Tried to tell my stud muffin she was going to slide but we all know how that goes...he listens and then does it his way only to come back and do it my way. It was good to be back on the road with air in our hair and we even stopped and took a picture or two along the way. The guards at the Igloo factory laughed at me when I said I wanted a picture of their guard shack....come on, it's shaped like personal Igloo cooler. Who wouldn't want that in their travel portfolio.
All was awesome until we hit the 8 bypass in Houston...confusing, expensive and at the end tear your hair out frustrating. Massive amounts of traffic, horrendous air quality and every 5 miles or so, they have a toll booth and they rob you of $3.50 each time ($1.75 for our baby and $1.75 for the trailer)...We got robbed three times before we finally hit the hotel outside the airport and that was only 1/4 around the city. Can't even imagine if you had to go around the who city. Couldn't drink beer fast enough when we finally got into our room which probably was a pretty big mistake since we were going out later to have a couple of beers. Yes it was a big mistake....
After a short rest we headed to a biker friendly bar we fell in love with our first visit to Houston which didn't include the damn 8 bypass. As they say, things never stay the same. We were the only bike in the parking lot among about 20 trucks and the bartenders definitely had changed. We loved going to the Ice Bucket for our friend Kingslea, who use to bartend there. The new feel of the place was a little sleazy (ok a lot sleazy) but the bartender and her friend shared some herb with me so it was all good...in fact a little too good since I was far beyond the couple of beers when we left. Made for a rough start to the next day of course but expected if you know me at all....
So ends the first day and a few things are known: we're not in shape for this, we don't have the patience we use to have for the ups and downs but most of all, we wouldn't change any of it no matter what the price.....life is just better for us on the bike and on the road.....

Dottie Beltway 8 around Houston is way expensive and the portion from 59 North over to I-10 East is EZ Tag only! So beware! How long are you going to be in Houston?
oscarsadventure already gone, we're now in Moss Point, Mississippi
