The day began in peace, I was the first awake for a lovely blissful hour. The bed was really comfortable and kayla n eds must have been too as they slept soundly in theirs without argument, hysterics or sleepwalking....these things happen each night at home.
When the kids woke up we went for a wander to investigate the site, the fog from last night remained and though we could hear seagulls nearby we had no idea which direction the 'Sea View' was in. On our stroll we found an amusement arcade; outside swimming pool and corner shop, after explaining:
1) no you can't go swimming in the fog in march.
2) I don't care how many pennies you have, you can't have an ice-cream before breakfast.
We settled on visiting the amusements.
We left in plenty of time for the tunnel, dad would be so proud, just as well since the main route to Folkestone was shut, and the detour massive, leaving us with just enough time to queue up and board instead of the planned hour in the terminal shops. For info trying to do a u-turn in a 7.5m long motorhome on a narrow forest lane is not an easy task, had it been only me able to drive it then we'd be there until the roadworks finished!
The Euro Tunnel trip flew by as I made us all cheese and tomato sandwiches using only a butter knife whilst the train lurched from side to side...almost as difficult as the u-turn manoeuvre!!
France came and went fairly quickly, it's interesting that they are as addicted to signs as we are to traffic cones, made more obvious by the fact the good people of Belgium don't believe in signs at all. They do however believe in dotting the odd giant red or blue plastic rabbit around which is a little strange.
I kept my eyes pealed for beautiful spires or typical belgian looking buildings as we approached towns but it seems like us they are largely surrounded by high rise flats, McDonald's and graffiti. Outside the towns it was lovely though wide open roads, sunshine, cheesy radio and field after field of crops.
So that's another 200 miles covered plus 22miles on the train ... and a fair few on the diversion but we won't count those. Total mileage for the route so far is around 470 miles of approx 1400.
The campsite is amazing and we arrived late afternoon so the kids got chance to play for a bit on the masses of play equipment situated on the beach surrounding a huge lake. It's going to be tough pulling them away from here tomorrow !!
