Oooooooooo the bright lights and smell of the capital city! We only arrived this afternoon after an eventful exploration of Chinatown to find our hotel, yes HOTEL! What luxury for 5.50 a night! We can even get a wake up call!!!! So far we've looked around Chinatown and the ngiht markets which are out of this world. Just market stalls packed in like sardines, and people everywhere, lots of hustle and bustle like I;ve never seen before. I have decided I really like the Malaysian people. THey are all (apart from the ones hassling you to buy things) very polite, friendly and eager to please and very helpful. Even when you tell the man trying to get you to stay at his hostel that you already have one booked he walks you to the one you're staying in, and helps carry your bags! I still can't get over the cheapness of this country! Just had a 2 course delicious meal and drink for 1.8 pounds! ANyway we are off to explore the city properly tomorrow and the next day before heading to Butterworth and Penang on Friday. Oh and I'm having a cut and blow dry tomorrow in a swanky looking hairdressers tomorrow for 5 pound 10!!!!!!!!! This country is so good and so much better than Singapore!!! PLus!! I've finally figures out what the hose pipes are for by the toilets...!!!!!!
Well what a mission it is to do anything in KL, it really really tested my patience. Queing for ages for tickets to go up the Petronas Towers, and people over here don't do queueing, they just barge. They don't even let you off the train before you get on. Also taxi drivers and the general public don't have a clue where anything is in their city! Really really frustrating. Every few mins you walk over the drain and get the awful smell of sewage which in the hjeat makes you wretch. Lovely! We went to the Batu Caves which is a big cave with loads of Hindu shrines inside and monkeys which was good and we had a general look around the city on a hop on hop off tour bus that was very easy to hop off but difficult to find to hop on. In the evening all 3 of us had our hair cut! Well I had the full works for 4.50 pounds! Had it washed (they wash it with shampoo and a bottle of water at the chair not by the sink) and a head and neck massage at the same time which I didn't know I was getting but it was very nice! I also had a conditioning treatment and it cut and dried. What a bargain! Brett had his dried with a hairdryer and I was crying with laughter. Overall an excellent experience and the hairdressers were amazed that my hair was going curly on it's own as theie hair is all poker straight.
overall I'm glad I went to KL but it is not a nice place and I'm never going back. It's impossible to do anything and it's ram packed with too many people. Public tranport is either non existent or late and people don't seem to have a clue about the city. Also it absolutely stinks!
