We loaded up and headed out for Galveston yesterday morning. As you can see in some of the pictures we ditched the whole camping in a tent idea and purchased a small travel trailer. She is a Palomini by Forest River; is about 18 ft long and has one tip out. The best part is that she's lightweight so we are able to tow her fairly easily behind my SUV.
As we got about 45 minutes out of Arizona heading south yesterday morning we had issues with our trailer hitch. Fortunately Paul can fix just about anything and after we pulled into an automotive store he was able to fix the sway bar that had come loose. It took about 9 hours to reach our first stop (instead of 6) but everything has been fine.
Our first stop last night was at Sunland Park Casino & Racetrack. It was close to El Paso, Texas but still in New Mexico. They have a section of their parking lot set aside for RVs so that people can come and stay and go gamble I presume. We did not get there in time to secure a spot where we could hook up our electricity and water, but we were able to find a nice spot there near them and we dry camped for free. This morning we were able to see some thoroughbred horses practicing so that was nice.
We are back on the road now and on our way to San Antonio. It's a little too far for us to reach tonight so we will be stopping at a place called Schiener City Park, which we think is about an hour or so Northwest from San Antonio. They have camping spots available and they are also free.
