Arrived at the hostel at 7 in the morning where the hostel staff were just winding down from the bar crawl the night before. Went to sign up to do the Auschwitz concentration camp and salt mines tours but the hostel staff wanted to make sure you're on their nightly bar crawl first. Went and checked the old town and got some Polish food in this cafe, cabbage and pork... fine combination. Met Jesse (kiwi) and Tim (Ozzy) who'd come in from London and went with them to see Schindler's factory. It was quite a treck so in true Australasian form, racking up the units on the way and getting 12 shots between us. When we eventually discovered it's whereabouts, we found it had just closed but wandered around the area where a few scenes in the film took place. We used a tour cart to get back to the hostel as had to reach the bar crawl by 9, that's when the hour of unlimited booze kicks off! Near enough the whole hostel attended and we filled and emptied the bars as we came and went, cutting shapes left and right. This was to be the first of 5 consecutive bar crawls...
Following day was my last full day in Krakow and to have slotted both Auschwitz and the salt mines in I would've had to have woken up at 7am, suffice to say I had to choose one and went with Auschwitz. It was a pretty hard hitting tour, the hardest part probably the 2 tonnes of Jewish womens hair, shaved before they were gassed. Couldn't take pics inside as were told it was disrespectful but went around gas chambers, furnaces, and barracks but lightning struck so tour guide legged it to the bus without saying anything so we figured the rest must be rained off. We all went back to the hostel pretty depressed as expected, to the rest of the hostel screaming 'BAR CRAWL!'. We jumped on board still and decided that the best way to make my 8am bus to Warsaw would be to crack an allnighter. This plan caved in at half 6 when I fell asleep among a mound of bodies in the reception. Luckily I woke an hour later to a bunch of Spaniards laughing at us - all with booked beds, sleeping on the floor...
