As had been the case for near enough the whole of Europe, the sun was shining bright in Tallinn. With all my gear and no idea, I took a few wrong turns on the way to the hostel as per and took an accidental stroll through the Old Town which is really nice and not much different to Riga`s. Some of the lads from Riga had also come up so met them and went on what would be my last bar crawl for a good month. It was with their hostel where a record 75 people had shown up! They said 40 of them were medical students, though I thought they`d said Mexican students so was expecting maracas, salsa and possibly Charles! You can only imagine my disappointment.
Next morning I went and got a trim and definitely found the right place. With pool tables scattered about and free beverages for the duration of your stay you can`t go wrong! Later that day I trecked over to the harbour, where an old Soviet run prison was. Had a look around the prison and was pretty shocking to see the conditions they were kept in. Couldn`t even find the solitary confinement section but a guy from the bar crawl was bringing the mood down explaining they were allowed a maximum of an hour outside per month, and even that was just a 4 metre squared patch of grass with a caged roof 3 metres up. Now the prison`s just used for tours and raves... That night was air hockey galore with this Tazmanian guy I`d met in Riga but otherwise had quite a peaceful one, though it`s tough to lay low in the party hostels.
The following day I went over to the KGB museum, which is based on the 23rd floor (where they carried out their operations) in the Viru hotel. Really interesting to see the techniques and equipment used to confirm peoples beliefs or catch them out. As another contrast to a dark piece of history, that night the hostel were doing the wizard staff game where you get through cans and stack them up. This of course was carried out in conjunction with beer pong and more air hockey. Against my original plans I ended up hitting my bed around half 4, and forgetting to set an alarm again I woke at 8:45 for my bus to Russia which was due to leave at 9:15. I rushed out of bed and with no order shoved everything in my backpack, probably waking the other 13 in the room and got the hostel to call a cab. He sped us over to the station where the bus was pulling off and luckily I ran it down, though I wasn`t the most popular guy en route to St Petersburg...
