At 7:00 am, Barry awoke to the words, "What are you doing?" muttered from within the next room. "Going for a surf with Barry." Barry leaped out of bed and moments later, he and Chris were out of the door headed for the ocean. Barry enjoyed the swim immensely and when he returned, it was with a huge grin on his face. Australian living definitely agrees with him!
After a help-yourself breakfast (our favorite kind), we headed to Dorrigo National Park for a bushwalk (Aussie-ism for a hike). On the way, we stopped for coffee in the quaint little town of Bellingen. It had a 1950s look and reminded us of Old Strathcona back in Edmonton.
As we continued to head up to the "Waterfall Way", the scenery took our breath away. We loved the winding road and the changing views as we climbed up, up, up.
At last, we arrived in the park and got ready for our 6 km trek along the Wonga Walk. One of the first things we did was apply plenty of bug spray. It seems the rainforest is full of leeches. This didn't faze Connor, Barry or Margaret, but Tessa experienced true discomfort especially after hearing about how the Kiryluks' visit involved multiple "attacks" during the walk. We were extremely lucky, however, and only met up with one bloodsucker. The lovely rainforest and beautiful waterfalls of this World Heritage listed park were well worth the drive. Of our many hikes, this one was certainly one to remember.
After we finished the hike, we had a lovely picnic lunch and then headed to the town of Dorrigo for another coffee. Back at Woolgoolga, everyone made their way down to the beach for a swim. We are starting to wonder if the life of Australians is just one big holiday, because it is certainly a lot of fun being here!
