We'd enjoyed our time in Siem Reap and would recommend it to anyone, but it was time to move on. By 10:30 am, we were packed up. Our original drivers took us back to the airport and we found out that one of them has a sister in Edmonton, so we hope to contact her when we get home!
The flight was Margaret's least favourite - very hiccupy - but we landed safely in Luang Prabang, which is all that counted.
We hadn't pre-booked a place to stay, so that was our first order of business. We had a taxi take us to our first choice (chosen from the pages of Lonely Planet), however they only had one double room available. Fortunately, they steered us down the street to the Xieng Mouane Guest House, where we got a lovely family suite for $40.00 Canadian - not bad considering the Scottish guy who sat with us on the plane was paying $70.00 for himself for one night. Unfortunately, we could only have the room for one night, so we'd have to look for another place in the morning.
The rest of daylight was spent looking at treks and bicycle tours, and we settled on a mountain biking adventure with Green Discovery Tours on December 7.
When we returned to our guesthouse, the streets were lined with Night Market Vendors. They do a wonderful job here - there is no pressure and it is all very relaxed. Strolling around, we looked at all the beautiful crafts, enjoying the rest of our evening. We couldn't believe that by day the streets are busy and filled with vehicles, but by night they transform into the Night Market. It was really cool.
