Connor and Barry headed out to the Chinese Embassy to drop off our passports. Barry continued to be amazed at Connor's adventurous spirit, as he led the way.
When the boys returned, we ventured out to Connaught Place - a large district of shops and restaurants - to eat, since the boys had reported seeing western-style fast food restaurants there after their sojourn to the bank the day before. We initially took bicycle rickshaws, which we cannot even begin to describe the danger of riding on. They were 3-wheeled bicycles with a bench just big enough for two highly trusting people to perch on while it weaves in and out of the traffic. When we got to the main road, our drivers quit! We were confused, but they said they wouldn't go on the main street, so we paid them 15 rupees each (half of what we had originally negotiated). It took 5 or 6 minutes just to walk to the main road which was only about 20 steps away. From there, we caught an auto rickshaw. It was crazy! However, we survived and got to Connaught Place.
McDonalds was nothing like home (no beef burgers, duh!), so we ventured a bit further to the KFC and ended up having an excellent lunch. The chicken was a million times better than home, and the service was unreal. There were employees everywhere, steering us to tables, holding out our chairs, cleaning up after us, and thanking us for coming! We thought it was hilarious that we were the only white people in the whole crowded restaurant, considering that we'd eaten "authentic" Indian food the night before and we noticed everyone got the same excellent service. We could definitely get used to this!
Back at the hostel, we discovered a brilliant Internet café, literally steps from the Smyle Inn and we happily updated our blog and began the process of researching air travel to Beijing and points beyond.
