We woke to a very cool morning, with rain threatening, but we were determined to stick to our plan of bike riding and were pleased we did. We travelled back to Forrest and prepared for some trail bike riding. None of us have done a lot of this type of riding so we were unsure what to tackle with the various tracks graded as Easy/More Difficult/Very Difficult. There were only 3 other cars there, and all riders had the proper riding gear/shoes, etc so we weren't sure what to expect, but after checking with a fellow rider, we agreed that the blue "more difficult" might be appropriate, so tackled the 11km Yaugher Super Loop first up.
It started out quite easy, with a fire trail for the first few hundred metres. Thereafter, it was mostly single track with lots of tight turns, downhill trails and gradual uphill climbs - the loop is only 60m from low to high so it wasn't too hilly for us. It was great fun, a real workout on the legs (and mum's brain apparently, as she was concentrating so much!). We welcomed a rest and some lunch back at the car and considered what trail to do next. We decided on the 5km J2 track which then joins back to the Yaugher Loop we'd done earlier. This track turned out to be a lot more difficult than our first one, with both Eamon & Renee coming abuster at various times and Eamon being bitten by a bull-ant didn't help. There were lots of challenging logs to go over (some we had to walk over). We saw a lone wallaby on the trail, but no other animals. All up that trail was about 9km, so 20km for the day wasn't bad and we loved it.
We got the bikes back on the car, and made the long drive back to Johanna Beach - again the weather was rainy and foggy, but that makes the great ocean road prettier. We arrived back at the campground around 7pm and various people had moved out/in. It's our last night here, but it's been an excellent campground, particularly with the open grass area that's been great for tennis and cricket for everyone.
