We woke this morning truly gutted that we didn't wake up to see the sunrise on the beach. It is the perfect place, deserted beach facing west over endless sea. We missed it by only half an hour as we woke early to make the most of our last day at Hue Beach Bar. Just not early enough. Matt's said he had being awake but had terrible stomach pains due to the mass of birds eye chili he devoured last night.
The day was spent reading, walking the shoreline, watching the locals fish, swimming out to the sand bar and relaxing until 3pm came and we had to catch a bus. At first we were crammed into a minivan that was two people over capacity and were told this was our transport to make the 4 hour journey to Phong Nha. In disbelief we resigned ourselves to this fact and tried to get comfy in this more than humorous situation. But then it turned out the the driver had a sense of humour for once as we pull up alongside a big luxurious coach that was half empty. We were glad as we got to pick our seats, a film was put on and the driving was ok. Half way through the journey some peculiar activity started....the drivers friend began stashing black hold all bags under the seats in compartments that have to be unscrewed or unbolted. He also started to close all the curtains on the bus where nobody was sat to makes sure nobody could see in. Very dodgy behaviour indeed.
At 10pm we arrived and checked our bags for signs of tampering just to make sure. Maybe us both reading the book by Warren Fellows 'The Damage Done' about getting caught drug trafficking in Thailand isn't the best idea at the moment.
