Wow what a day!! It was like an episode of Lost!
Our plan... to find a beautiful secluded beach (We were told we could walk and there is a path to Long Beach) What happened:
- Woke up with lots of bites so we researched sandflies - but instead we found out about king cobras and 40 other venomous snake species that live on the island!
- Set off on our walk petrified!
- Turns out it's a full on jungle trek.
- 20minutes in.... flip flops were a bad choice!
- Hurrying through the jungle and matt kicks a big rock = toe injury.
- We considered turning back but decided against this....
- The jungle trek turns into mountain climbing!
- 55mins - we find paradise!! - Long Beach
It turns out Long Beach is EXTREMELY LONG!! & also full of rubbish from the hippies who think they can live in the wild. These people think they are living out on a limb but they need to consider the $3 boat taxi to civilisation that is next to them. However there was some good wildlife, we even found what we think was a puffer fish!! (If anyone can identify the fish in the picture it would be appreciated!)
After 2 and a half hours of walking down long beach (It was a bad choice to walk the entire beach!) we reached the end. After realising the only boat taxi was at 3pm (and it was 1pm) and there was not a boat at the side we were at, we had to think of other options! Do we walk back or do we pay $30 for a private one?!
We decided that walking back 2 and a half hours would be tough due to Matts injury but we decided it was better than a $30 boat so we headed for lunch to gain some energy. We got chatting to the Italian man who ran the restaurant who said that there MIGHT be a boat soon that drops people off and there might be a chance that he would take us back. While waiting we had carbonara, which was amazing. WE HAVE NEVER BEEN SO HAPPY TO SEE A BOAT IN THE DISTANCE!! Our new friend went to discuss our option with the driver and came back with great news - $5 each to get back!! Wow we were relieved!! As Caz would say it was fate!!
We had a nap to get over the days events and a full moon party was on the cards! We got oursleves ready, even making a bit of an effort... Char's first use of mascara and eye liner in 3 and a half weeks!!
Judging by the lonely figures on the beach dancing at 5pm we thought the party could be interesting. (It wasn't starting until 11pm!)
We went for full moon 'Prinks' (thanks Annabel for the word!) and met Chris and Chloe who were as apprehensive as us. We got to the party and realised that everyone else had brought their own booze so he headed to the shop. We then had to sneak this in as they had started stopping people. 1 bottle of $7 rum later and we had met Chris and Danni, watched 'fire-fighting' (Fire dancers performing while humans and dogs fight), a man being carried out and we danced our hearts out to rubbishly dj'ed music. Clutching big sticks we headed to watch the sunrise on another beach (We had heard dogs had been biting people). We found ourselves falling asleep with people clearning up at 6:35am so we headed to bed.
