Today I done my second dive on the Great Barrier Reef!! I moved in to Gilligans hostel yesterday and there is a American girl in my room and is doing the same boat as me so it's cool I kinda got someone I know! She is a qualified diver though and has taught alot all over the world so think we'll be on different lessons!!
When we got up and got on the boat it was a proper horrible day. Blackclouds everywhere and so over cast it was rubbish then the second we stepped on the boat it started pissing down with rain :( All I could think about was how this was going to be a waste of money and I'm not going to be able to see anything but it was the best day!!
First we went out in the middle of the sea (through the rain and choopy waters!) and went for a snorkle. The guides were there with big rings so people could hold on to them through the crazy choppy waters and the guides knew where the best things lived and had different hand signals for when they saw different things, Sharks, Turtles, Nemo's etc so I decided to stick with them so I could see as much as I could but when actually out in the water I've discovered I much prefer going off on my own and seeing everything. Even though the weather was so s*** the visibility under the water was amazing!! I had a under water camera so was really keen to get right down to all the fish and stuff to get photo's sp I just took my life jacket off and was swimming right to them, it was amazing!! Before too long I saw the guide doing a sign for Shark so I swam over and it was a white tip reef shark! It was just lying on the sea bed and looked so cool! Because I didn't have my life jacket on I could easily swim right down next to it so I kept doing that for a while until the shark got pissed off with me trying to make pals with it and b*****ed off!!
After that we had lunch and chilled for a bit. It was still over cast but it was warming up quite a bit. They took us to this little place where we could snorkel again but it was a little sand island in the middle of the ocean and as soon as I got to it the sun came out! It was like it was waiting for us to get there before coming out! It was weird cause when the sun came out the visibility wasn't as good as you could see the dirt that the rain had kicked up but it was still good swimming and snorkelling and seeing all the reef and different fish.
After that I had my dive and I wasn't as impressed with it as I was when I was on Whitsundays. I think it was cause on Whitsunday's the three on us were just in a line and I could just follow him but this time he insisted on holding us each by the hand so I couldn't really swim properly and I couldn't just look about all over the place like before cause I had him on my left! Also I didn't see as much as I had when I was snorkelling but oh well, you win some you lose some!
It was still such a amazing day and I just sunbathed on the roof of the boat all the way back and drifted off to sleep!! That's the life!
