Still in Cardwell at the moment, working full time in the Mariner restaurant, will have to take some pics and post them on here soon as it is the most perfect setting. I am so so loving the backpacker lifestyle now, have met so so many awesome people. The hostel I am staying in at the moment is pretty grotty, it used to be an old squash court. our room consists of a stud wall with no ceiling, and a hugh curtain for a door!!!! At first i did not really like this, but have got used to it now, and don't actually mind, although some nights it is pretty difficult to get to sleep due to the SNORING, MUSIC, TV, CHATTING, BREATHING, so basically i found that it is best to stay awake until everyone else is in bed.
Have had 3 little mini road trips since we have been up here, went to Townsville a couple of weeks ago with our friend Nat and Arriana in their campervan, very exciting with 4 of us sleeping in the van, although Gaz opted for sleeping in the front on his own, so I got to snuggle up in the back with the girls, very very funny story involved with this as well!!! The main aim of this mini road trip was to see some civilisation other than the 2 residents of Cardwell, and to watch Harry Potter, and eat KFC, and we managed this succesfully!!
This time last week me and Gaz hired a car for a couple of days, we managed to squeeze so much in, we decided to head up the coast, along the way we managed to squeeze in Murray Falls & Murdering Point Winery, although with the winery we were kinda expecting to try some mouthwatering ozzy wines, but instead we got to try some fruit infused alcoholic experiments!!! After the first taste I thought that it was not too bad, but then after a careful tasting of each and every one of them, I realised that it was not my cup of tea, although if you ask Gaz he may give you a differenr response as he ended up buying 2 bottles @ $20 each!!! Our first main destination after these couple of stop offs was Port Douglas, the drive along to this place was amazing, taking us through mountains, rainforests, and beautiful ocean roads. We did not stay long here, just had a little drive round, then a walk round the Mariner. Port Douglas is a big money area with lots of nice houses, 4/5 star holiday resorts, and lots of classy boutiques and restaurants.
Our next destination after this was Cairns. I have been here once before, and the main reason for us visiting Cairns was to go out partying!! We checked into a backpackers called Gilligan’s which is a pretty well known hostel around Australia. Our mate Aaron met us in Cairns as well and we ended up partying till about 3 or 4 in the morning, although the 2 boys did not arrive home till about 7 in the morning!! Spent about 2 hours of the night dancing on a table in a nightspot called the Woolshed, was wicked!!
Our second night we headed to a place called Mission Beach, very beautiful beachside location, we stayed at a hostel called Scotty’s. After a pretty heavy time the night before we decided that we would have a quiet & relaxing evening, and luckily there was a really nice BYO Thai Restaurant next door to the hostel, the food here was delicious. When I said quiet, we still managed to spank 24 beers and 3 bottles of wine between us, lol!!!!
So yeah having an amazing time at the moment here in Northern Queensland, can’t wait to get on the road and do some more exploring.
