It was time to pack up Camp Le Good, one tent gone, two more to go. Our camping was pretty minimalistic compared to others arriving on the site. The site was excellent and had been very quiet but lots of new arrivals yesterday so we had new neighbours. A couple arrived with a large caravan next door and had a huge awning the size of Sarah and Duncan's flat and now they were putting up another tent. I can only assume they were having visitors. Lots of large campervans arrived towing cars, a really enormous one came with a mini on a trailer behind. Our very modest expenditure on camping stuff was noted by the kids who found that we were still using 30 year old camping stuff! but we didn't have a fridge in our tent and electric kettle in those days. All packed up we saw Sarah and Duncan off on a bus to Geneva to spend a night in a hotel , while we headed South.
Another hot and expensive day travelling on the motorways. It's a long time since we drove in France but it seemed really expensive having to keep paying tolls. We stopped in Nimes to see the Roman amphitheatre and villa. It was quite late in the day but still exceedingly hot. The amphitheatre was very impressive but it difficult to imagine the gladiator battles in the arena when there as now a modern stage and lighting in place.
We arrived in Castelnau de Guers about 7pm after missing the turning and getting lost in the village. Dining on the balcony with the noisy cicadas, the long day's travelling was a distant memory.
