We have made it to Bangkok in one piece! Flight from Sydney was the scariest experience of my life... we flew through 3 huge lightening storms and had pretty bad turbulence the whole way.
Bangkok is busy busy busy and quite humid at the moment. So far we have had lost of rain though which cools the place down for a little while.
Hotel is ok. It has a swimming pool which has kept us cool and helped us relax before setting off on our treck tomorrow. The hotel also offers Thai massages so we both got a foot massage the other night which was good (pretty bloody sore but relaxing afterwards). The Thailand food is not too bad. AJ likes it more than me. Most of it is a bit spicy.
The Tuk Tuk drivers are already beginning to annoy us. We can't step foot out the hotel without someone telling us we can't walk about in the clothes we have on (because the palace's and temples require shoulders and legs to be covered) and they also tell us the main tourist attractions are closed due to Thailand holiday. This is all a big scam so you will go in their Tuk Tuk and they can charge you quite a bit to show you all the other sights. We decided to get a taxi from the hotel reception and managed to negotiate a very good price for a taxi driver to drive us round for the day taking us to the main attractions. I recommend this is the way to go for anyone visiting Thailand! Air conditioned taxi's who will wait on you whilst you visit all the attractions. It actually worked out cheaper than what a Tuk Tuk would have cost us.
Yesterday we went to MBK which is a 7-floor shopping centre. We spent a good 8 hours there and (I) bought a few bits and bobs. Everything is so cheap! It also has a whole floor of restaurants so we managed to get our dinner there as well. After a bottle of wine, we were very tempted to go to one of the karoke pods where you can sing to your hearts content in a plastic bubble with a karoke machine! Decided not to though.
So we are away to start our adventure trip tomorrow so not sure when the next time I can update this blog will be. I have put some photos up of our day trip in the taxi if interested.
Love to all,
Lee-Ann and AJ
