I woke up fairly early, 9am, and couldn't get back to sleep for some reason. It was raining anyway so I just lounged around until Therese woke up at 11am. Everyone else in the room was asleep too.
My neck is aching from that stupid game last night!
And that was pretty much it all day. The most crappy weather - torrential rain all day. We'd get a 10 minute break in the rain, and then it would start again. Further north, where we are due to get to soon, they are having the 3rd most rainfall on record! Rivers are overflowing, towns are under water. It actually means that we can't even get past a place called Rockhampton which is about halfway between where we are now and where we need to get to. And literally you can't get past as there's no other roads! We can't believe it. There's a place that is having it's first yacht race for 10 years. There's severe weather warnings and the forecast isn't good for at least a week. This crap happened to us last year in Florida - worst rain in x number of years and all that.
So we don't know what we're going to have to do. The east coast is all about beaches, but it's raining everywhere. We could change our route around but that's going to cost extra money. We might even have to skip the east coast all together.
So the weather situation is depressing and so is money. We just can't believe how bad the exchange rate is and consequently how incredibly expensive everything is. I've probably said it before, but everything you would buy at home is at the very least double the price. But it's very often triple or quadruple the price - I am not exaggerating.
Obviously, everybody else out here is in the same situation. That kind of makes us feel better in a way.
We did get out for a short while to the supermarket, but it was just raining all the time. The highlight of the evening was our free meal! All we had to do was buy a drink, so we got a soft drink each costing about £4 between us. And we got lasagne with vegetables, salad and a slice of bread and butter. Not bad for free anyway. Chatted with our room mates most of the night. Three girls from America and then they had a few lad mates around who were good to talk to. Apart from when they had a little argument as started pushing each other around.
Hopefully we'll see better weather tomorrow!
