The next morning we picked up out Wicked camper. As expected it was a piece of s***. We should have considered ourselves lucky the thing wasn't covered in anything offensive, but it was pink leopard print, so a bit of an eye sore. It was supposed to look like a strawberry but it just looked retarded.
It's a 2000km trip down to Brisbane and we had been given 5 days to do it. More than enough time but there's so much to do down the stretch that we were having to plan the bits we wanted to see the most. The first stop was Mission Beach. The weather was nice so we took a walk (and the hula hoop) and spent some time chilling here. We had some lunch (peanut butter and bread) and then hit the road again. Next up was Townsville. This is a pretty big city on the East Coast, but we didn't think much of it. We got lost (because Siobhan was eating a Maxibon) and had an argument, which only made things worst. Before it got dark we wanted to get down to Airlie Beach for the next morning, so we quickly left Townsville in silence.
We spent the night just outside of Airlie Beach on some farmers front garden. Fortunately he didn't notice and we left too early for him to do anything about it. When we got to Airlie Beach we booked ourselves onto a day tour out to The Whitsundays. We went out on a speed boat and took a tour round the islands. Then we stopped and did some more snorkelling round the reef there. After that we got back on the boat and went over to Whitehaven Beach, which is incredible. After some sunbathing and lunch with a goana we sailed back to Airlie and hit the road again. Tonight we pulled into a campsite in a place called St Helen's Beach. It was dark and we didn't have any money so we were hoping to sneak in and out for free, but the owners caught us. We had a quick chat and they took pity on us (probably because we were driving a massive blancmange) and let us stay for free. Thank you kind lesbians!!
The next day we took off to Gladstone. We just wanted to get as much driving done today because we hadn't done any the day before. Gladstone is also close to Agnes Water and Town of 1770, which were places we wanted to see the next day. We camped down on the side of the road. Sleeping in a camper van is hard because it's so cold, especially when the doors don't close. This had taken it's toll on Siobhan so we bought her some thermal pants. Unfortunately, the next morning she was still complaining about it.
In the morning Siobhan wouldn't let us go to Agnes Water and Town of 1770, so we raced down towards Noosa. It took all day so we stopped here and went to beach and took a walk around the town. Noosa is a pretty cool place and the weather was good, so we wished we could have stayed longer. By this point we were pretty close to Brisbane so we thought we'd just finish it that night. We were supposed to return the van empty of petrol, so we rolled in to Brisbane on fumes. This meant we couldn't mess about finding somewhere free to stay, so had to pay for a campsite. We cooked some super noodles and wrapped Siobhan up in any piece of fabric or blanket we could find and went to sleep. I was freezing. Siobhan was snoring.
This morning we returned the camper to the depot and got settled into our new home. We are staying in Manly Harbour at a place we quickly booked. We didn't read the fine print and this place is bloody miles from the city. Going to have a look around Brisbane now. We've got three days to kill...
