Brisbane is a pretty cool place. We took a wander around the city and saw all the sights. There wasn't an incredible amount to do in Brisbane itself which was why we'd only allowed ourselves three days there. Our hostel is really nice but quite a treck into the city, plus the train network is really expensive and only employs rude and obnoxious members of staff.
The one thing that's frustrating about Brisbane is that everything closes early. If New York is the city that never sleeps, Brisbane is the city that get's an early night. This meant that after a hard days sightseeing we went home hungry.
The next day we took the train into the city again with the intention of looking at the shops. On the way in we were stopped by a travel agent standing outside a place called Travel Bugs. To summarise this guy had ADHD and before we knew what had happened we had payed $700 for bus tickets down to Sydney and various other things that we still don't know what they are. One thing that was cool was that we got a discount into Australia Zoo and that was our destination the next day.
Australia Zoo is the zoo owned by the late, great 'Sir' Steve Irwin and his family. Mostly his family now. We've been to a lot of zoo's in Australia and generally they are all the same. They try to make the lives of the animals as normal as possible and limit the affects of being in captivity on their daily lives. Here it's about wrestling tigers and antagonising alligators... It's incredible!
Today was our last in Brisbane. We had a wander around Manly Harbour and then made our way into town to catch our Greyhound bus down towards Sydney. We've payed for two stops on the way down and the first is a place called Surfers Paradise.
