Arrived, threw things in the room then went for a walk around. We have never seen so many bikes! They go on any side of the road and if there's no room there they just drive on the pavement! It's crazy...
We had picked up a map from reception, so we used it to find Benh Thanh Market. It's a huge market (way bigger than Widi market) and mainly for tourists, we found out. They're cheeky monkeys in there. They say a price you have to divide it by 2 then knock a bit more off to get the true cost. After some fun bartering I had a lovely hat and a present for Maggie and Haribo. I tried to convince Lee to get a pair of hot pink calvin Klein boxers, that a lady on a stall was intent on selling him, but he refused?! We found an art museum, just around the corner, so we had a stroll through that. It was the 1st gallery I've been where you can buy any picture off the wall (on the 1st floor). We walked back to the hotel, got changed and went out for tea. We were both feeling a little overwhelmed because we'd just come from the beach, in Sihanoukville, followed by a 16 hour bus journey and now we were in a manic city. We went the 1st place we'd seen and it wasn't the best.... (We had asked the hotel, nouveau happy inn, but they spoke very little English) after tea we walked around looking at the different bars/ restaurants. It ranges from an actual bar/ restaurant to, what looks like, open garage doors all along the street. People just open the front of there house, put a few seats on the street and sit making food out of a cauldron (maybe a bit dramatic probably more a big pot) that's been made in to a barbecue. They have glass fridges with beers in them too for the bar element.
We went back to Skype! We missed nanna, Elaine and Dec. I'll make sure I ring next week! Promise x
