In the news there had been Iranian terrorists who had thrown bombs at police. Apparently Police were allerted when a bomb had gone off in a home in Bangkok, when the police showed up one of the men threw bombs at the police car. The bomb had bounced back and blown the terrorists legs off! So he got arrested (unable to get away), another man had been arrested and the 3rd was missing. So our bus was stopped 3-4 times. Each time an armed army man got on, checked everyone's passport and got off. At least they were being thorough! We arrived in Kuriburi about 11pm. The bus station had just 1 man there. Around it looked derelict. As Lee helped pull our bags off the bus the man at the station passed me his mobile and gestured for me to talk?! Erm hello. The person said hello. I said who is this? He was a tour company who had rooms available. How kind! He told me where to go, turn right out of the station and he is waiting at the bottom of the (dark, unlit) road. Sure enough he was there! He loaded our bags on the back of his truck. We had to sit on our bags in the back as he took us off the main road (that was completely empty and in darkness) along the river, to a group of huts. 290bahts for bed and breakfast! He demonstrated where the floods had been up to late last year - a foot from the roof. Then he said good night and drove off shouting I will pick you up at 7am for breakfast....
The bed/ mattress must have been dried out after the floods but the springs appear to have rusted. The bamboo weaved around the hut had expanded in the damp causing holes in the hut. I was the first to discover the plumbing issues whilst brushing my teeth. As I spat my toothpaste out it landed on my foot. It was a wet room with a sink but no pipes? We both got our sleeping bags out (as we didn't fancy sleeping on the satin, red sheets) and pulled the mosquito net over us. Then we both passed out.
