We were woke in the morning a little before we'd arrived in Bangkok so we had time to wake up.
Once up we got off we jumped on the underground to find a park or somewhere to chill out. Our flight wasn't until 7 and Julian's wasn't until the early hours of the following morning so we had loads of time (it was 6am when we arrived). We got off and followed the map. It was a long walk! Thankfully we'd left our backpacks at the train station! We went under bridges (where men were sleeping with street dogs lying next to them, with a fowl smell surrounding everything underneath the bridge) we walked through back streets, along main streets, passed victory monument (which was extremely phallic like so I'm not sure what victory was being celebrated - its shape and the fact it's on a round
about with lots of traffic going around it made us observe from afar). I did a spot of moaning to the boys about my distaste to the aimless walking and the sweat that was pouring off me. Lee was adamant he knew where he was going so we took a minute in macdonalds while I freshened up (and opted for an English muffin to make me feel better) then we set off again. A taxi would have been pennies but when Lee has a map.... Anyway we finally took a left turn and ended up at the zoo! Lee stumped his toe with excitement (he thought he'd broke it and had to take a minute. He was infront of Julian so he didnt cry) We saw seals clapping and doing tricks, monkeys, a really slow sloth (it moved even slower than Lee) I recorded it because it was amazing to watch sooommmmmeeeethiiinnnggggg sssooooooo ssllllooooowwww. We felt sorry for the huge elephants that were tyed with chains around there necks to the railings (in such away that if they pulled too hard it would choke them). In protest we didn't go and see their performance!
We left the zoo and jumped in a taxi to the port by Wat pho to jump a boat to Wat Arun. We didn't go and see this temple when we were first in Bangkok so off we went. After seeing Wat Arun we left to head to Silom to the hotel we'd stayed in with the roof top pool. We sat on the edge of the pool, our feet in the water and had a beer together. It was our good bye drink because it was nearing the time for mine and Lees flight and we still needed to get our bags from the train station! So off we went. Whilst lee got the bags I printed out the boarding passes and checked in online. We ran for our train to phaya Thai (4 bahts each). We made it! The ticket checker looked at our ticket, folded it over and put a whole in it. He'd done a love heart with his ticket puncher! The train men were super smiley and one came to check our destination then came to get us when it was time for us to get off. He told us the next time the train stops this will be your station. The train had been stopping along the track picking people up and we hadn't actually seen a station yet so we were glad when he told us the next stop was ours. The train stopped (it didn't look like a station more a shanty street on the track side), loads of people got on, lee got off, as he went to drag his backpack off, the doors shut on him, then the train started moving, with me still on and Lee hanging out the door.... People were shouting, Lee was shouting STOP, I stood in shock. Lee yanked his bag free from the doors and jumped onto the side of the track. The train continued. The train man came over apologizing. He helped me off at the next station and told the staff that I was to get the next train going back to phaya thai. I was left to sit at the station. I couldn't ring Lee because his phone had just died. I just had to hope he would be at the station I was heading to. An announcement came over the speakers. When I asked what it meant I was told it meant the train was delayed. It was 6:10pm and the latest we could get the airport was 7:05pm and I didn't know how far away we were....
Turns out the delayed train was going the other way so there was no need for my eyes to leak a bit (with worry for Lee not because I'm a big wimp lost in a foreign country oh did I mention Lee didn't grab his bag as he'd got off?! he'd grabbed mine). I got on and off the train at the right station. Lee was nowhere to be seen so I headed for the platform of the sky train to the airport. The train arrived at 6:25.... Lee wasn't there but I figured I'd go the airport and see if either he'd be there at check in or I could postpone the flight??? 20mins into the journey I was one stop away from the airport and the little girl I'd met on the platform, on her way home from school, had got off so I had no-one there reassuring me (what a lovely girl). As I slumped in a seat I saw a mirage of Lee in the window... Nope it WAS Lee! I shouted LEE he shouted NIC? LEE, NIC... He ran over and we did an armeggedon reunion (well not quite. There was no music just a quick hug) turns out he'd got the train to my station, had security at the station, who didn't speak English, looking for me (or a dog or a bag - think they were just following him). What the train man had failed to tell me was the train I was going back to at Phaya Thai station was the skyline that connected at the station I'd gone to?! So whilst i was down stairs at the stupid station Lee was upstairs (and across the road and poss around the corner - the sky train has the same name as the land train) Anyway it was now 6:55 so we ran through the airport looking for the check in. We got there 7:04! We had planned on showering but with all the cuffuffle we hadn't eat so we just had time to get some noodles to go then ran to board!
As soon as we sat on the plane (which by the way was a tiny one with propellers) we let out a sigh buckled up and opened our noodles. Maan they were pigging awful! Even lee couldn't eat them! But we got food on the plane. And it was nice.
