Road trip! Today we're planning on seeing the Gold Coast, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast so we got up early, had some cereal, got a wash and headed up the coast!
The man in the information centre in Byron bay had given us a map yesterday and told us the best route to Brisbane. 1st stop was a waterfall. The man told us it wasn't off road..... It was. We ended up on a single lane dirt track through the Forest. The road had poles every few hundred feet indicating the water level. Apparently the 'road' disappears under water quite a bit. We were lucky because there was only one point in the road when lee got out to check if we were ok to go through. We were, and after a little drive we were at the top of the waterfall! No one was there. It was just me and Lee. It was a bit scary. It was the middle of nowhere plus Lee saw a spider and ran back to the camper. I wasn't far behind him! Next stop Nimbin. We had to see the little town in Australia where the police turn a blind eye to people smoking weed. I imagined tie die, dread locks and vw campers... It had a rainbow house and cafes and a police station. It was a tiny town. We parked up and walked through. The shops sold touristy things but the odd herbal shop sold speed lollipops and chill out lollipops... Lee must look like he's down with the stoners because every cafe had a local person sat outside drinking coffee whispering to him 'do you want some weed?' After a pot of chai (that was just a chai latte no added herbs but really didn't taste very nice) we headed for the main road to get to the Gold Coast.
We parked up at the first beach and had a picnic. Peanut butter and jam butties - made out the back of our camper.
The beach was gorgeous. It had white sand and was so clean. The sea was a little choppy so we just jumped a couple of waves, dried off on the beach then headed along the coast. The weather changed and it started to rain. There was a cyclone out at sea and it was having an effect on the east coast. Surfers paradise had signs saying they shouldn't surf due to water conditions. The strip looked like benidorm.... We trooped on to Brisbane. Brisbane was wet too and just looked like a city. We drove through rather than stopping. Lee kept driving; heading for the Sunshine Coast.
First stop Miami beach. The weather had got better but the sea was still choppy. We made chicken and peanut butter butties then found a nice little spot by the beach. It was windy woo! We drove to noosa and looked out at the view point as the clouds went darker and the weather went miserable. Lee drove and drove for as long as he could until he was tired then we pulled in at the side of the road and went to sleep.
