Sorted out wheels for myself so after a wee scare with the earthquake I said goodbye to Christchurch and hello open road! First up was Lake Tekapo. Arrived on a dreich day and the view could've been of any Loch in Scotland. Next day was a lot nicer though and I saw the gorgeous blue colour Tekapo is famous for!
Car camping was on the agenda for the next night so after finding the campste beside Lake McGregor, I sorted out the car (blowup bed and sleeping bag!) and went for a stroll over to Lake Alexandrina. Not quite as blue as Tekapo but still very pretty with a view of snow capped mountains.
From there it was over to Mt Cook and another campsite called White Horse. No horses in sight but a nice campsite and plenty walks/tramps to do along the foothills of the valley. Started out on a wee walk that ended up in doing the whole Hooker Valley trail! Very pretty scenery even in crappy weather!
Next day I did another wee walk to Kea Point which is on the other side of the valley with a view up to Mt Sefton and over to Mt Cook. Headed from there to the hostel for a well needed rest in a proper bed and a shower!
Next up is Oamaru and a Victorian Fete/Steampunk....should be interesting!
