We arrived in Kuala Lumpur and came across a little guest house, run by a sweet jolly man who helped us throughout our stay, with advice on where to go and what to see. We spent the first day exploring the city and took a stroll over to Times Square shopping mall, where they had a Theme Park inside the building on the 5th to 8th floors of the shopping mall! It was very surreal riding rollercoaster's and other rides inside, whilst other people continued their shopping! Quite an experience. After Lunch and feeling a little light headed from the rides, we headed to the Petronas Towers (The tallest Twin Towers in the world!) and took an elevator to the sky bridge, from there we could see the entire city, the views were spectacular. We were given an insight into the infrastructure of the building and almost brainwashed with facts and figures of Patronas. We spent the evening popping in and out of various shopping malls and then had an Indian dinner and an early night.
The next day we walked for miles to the train station to book our sleeper train down to Singapore. We thought we'd take a different route back, through the lovely Lake Gardens, only when we got there, the lake had no water in it and it pissed it down with rain! We braved the clod rain and continued walking past the national mosque, where we got caught up in a sea of men on their way into the mosque to begin their prayers. We then came to Merdeka Square, where the British flag was lowered 50 years ago, to signify their independence. This was situated opposite the Sultans Palace. After this, we wandered through China Town looking for chinese tea mugs, which we are both desperate to buy, but to no avail, instead Leanna left with 2 pairs of shoes and a bag of grapes. We had a cheap and cheerful lunch in one of the malls and couldn't resist another stroll around the shops, which only depressed us as we had no money to buy anything! :( That night we went to visit the Telecommunications tower (4th largest in the world!) where we were taken to the top and with the aid of an electronic guide, able to see the landmarks of Kuala Lumpur. The city by night was just a pretty as by day and Nikki couldn't resist investing in a picture of us in front of the beautifully lit Twin Towers. Dinner proved to be an adventure in itself as we couldn't decide on a venue and with the time ticking later into the night, we eventually stumbled into the mall and again feasted on cheap and cheerfull grub.
On our last day in Kuala Lumpur we decided to take it easy and have a relaxed day of reading and wandering. Having learnt the night before from our electronic guide that a mini jungle surrounded the Telecommunications tower, we made that our first point of call. Feeling completely drained from the previous days exercise, we showed little enthusiasm for the mosquito infested jungle area and sadly walked away from it covered in bites, this time it was Nikki who came off worse. Our original plan to go to Sunway Lagoon shopping mall to check out the Water Park, ice rink and other fun and unusual attractions, fell through once we realised time was running out, so instead we bought books from the bookshop, food from the supermarket and had our own little picnic in the park outside the towers, had it not been for the rain we could have layed on the grass in true picnic style, but instead took refuge in a nearby coffee shop where we spent the remainder of the day. Finally it was time to leave and head to Singapore, we picked up our bags and said "tata" to the nice people at the hostel.
