Our journey to Koh Phangan involved a very uncomfortable night ferry crossing. After nearly missing the ferry Nikk wasnt given a bed and was instructed to sleep underneath between the engine and the loo! We reached Ko Phi Phi with high expectations because it is reputed to be one of the most beautiful islands to see in Thailand, along with those that surround it. However, our first impressions when we got there were that it was just too touristy, with loads of holidaymakers and backpackers milling around at the pier and along the streets - I suppose it was to be expected with a world class reputation. We were supposed to leave Siem Reap on another early bus to cross the Cambodia/Thai border, but much to our alarm the bus and everyone else waved goodbye and left the 3 of us standing on the side of the road. Hey! Today we left Chiang Mai to continue our journey into the neighbouring country of Laos. We had booked passage to Luang Prabang in Laos by slow boat down the Mekong river.
