Bonjour to everyone from Nice
Last week when I wrote we were in Barcelona. A big bustling city that got unbearable the day before we left. It was St George’s day where they celebrate by men giving their woman a rose & women giving their men a book. It is a really big day in Spain where they had bookstands & flower sellers on every corner and a parade through town. It felt like it must’ve been a public holiday there were so many people out on the streets.
The picture on this blog is of the Sagrada Familia which is one of Gaudi’s works. It is a Catholic church that has been under construction since 1882 and still isn’t finished! OMG it’s supposed to be finished in 2026 which will be 100 years after he died!
My lasting thoughts on Spain are tapas mmmm…., awesome buildings & architecture, courtyards & piazzas, statues&monuments, cathedrals, people, people, people and shoe shops – couldn’t get over how many different shoe shops would be in one stretch of street. Also, human statues. They started in Madrid but were really big in Barcelona. They are the people who are spraypainted as dfferent characters & don’t move unless you put money in their hat. Very clever some of them.
From Barcelona we travelled to Marseille where we stayed three nights. It was nice but wouldn’t rush back. We did a lovely boat cruise that went out to the Calanques which are huge limestone cliffs. They are very impressive but not picturesque at all. More of a bleak landscape than anything. We also took ourselves off to Aix en Provence which I loved.Aa cute little town about half an hour north of Marseille. It’s known as the town from where the artist Cezanne comes from & it’s also known as the town of 100 fountains – although some were just dribbling it was very quaint.
Now we are in Nice. We arrived last night & from what we have seen so far we both love it. Last night we had dinner at a restaurant called Le Maori! Well we had to didn’t we. When we enquired about the name it was nothing to do with New Zealand – they just liked the word. Very bizarre cause they had Salad Maori & Salad Tonga on the menu & yet the branding was like Egyptian etchings. Anyway the food was nice.We are off to Monaco, Monte Carlo & doing a Provence villiage tour so will catch up again from our next stop in Milan, Italy.
Heard you finally had a day of rain so that was good!Hope you’re all good xxxx
