Saturday March 13th - Day Nine
Today was another long day of driving. There is literally nothing between Karijini and Perth except for a few THOUSAND kilometers! We left Newman early in the morning and arrived around 4pm at Wogarno Sheep Station—our accommodation for the evening. The farm is the smallest sheep farm in Western Australia but is STILL 152,000 acres and has 1,800 sheep! We decided not to set up tents so that we could hit the road quickly and early the next morning. The guides gave us the option of sleeping in the shearing building or outside on the outback dirt. Do I need to say which option I chose? After standing a foot away from a wild python I think I can handle any wild animal the outback decides to through my way! Well maybe not ANY animal, but our guides said the farm had a professional snake catcher in before we arrived to remove a few Dugites ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dugite ) that had been wandering around. Around sunset we went for a bit of an off-road adventure in search of kangas. We saw a few and then hiked up to a lookout to get a better view of the vast outback land. The view was magnificent; the typical outback dirt and bush seemed to go on for as far as the eye could see! It was then back to camp for a chicken stirfry and an early night sleeping under the stars.
