DayThree- Melbourne
The Day of the Burn….
So it's official.. I have been welcomed by a wonderful Australian sunburn.Even though I used sunscreen and took as much precaution as I could. It still happened. The word around the hostel is that it is a mandatory requirement for Canadians and Brits to burn here in Oz.My shoulders, arms and top of my feet got it the worst… and my nose pretty much makes me look like Rudolph.Aside from that I had an awesome day out around town, so I guess it was worth it.
I woke up today at 6:30am after going to bed at 12:30.I felt amazing.. like I had slept for a whole 12 hours.Jet lag does weird things I tell ya!The day started with a sweet breaky (breakfast) of eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast for a whopping $5!I then had some time to kill because I had made plans to meet up with Lachie around noon. While I waited I used up the rest of my internet time.
Noon came around and Lachie and I headed out to the Botanical Gardens. It was GINORMOUS!!!!We spent a good 2 hours walking around the gardens and learning about Aussie flora. The weather could not have been better! It was sunny with a temperature of about 23.Just how I like it.After the gardens we wandered around the Australian Open (tennis) grounds and watched a couple matches in a neat little city square called Federation Square. It is a great gathering spot with a big screen tv where people congregate to lay in the sun and watch the games.. eat at the cafes.. have a brew and just vege out.
After a wee bit of time we stumbled upon the Melbourne Moving Picture Museum. It was a neat free museum with an awesome interactive section.Lachlan and I had too much fun editing movies (aka putting really bad music and dialog into films at the wrong parts!) It was awesome.I recommend this to anyone who ends up in this part of the world!
Everything was closing up by the time we were through the museum, so we decided to wander the streets and we grabbed some ice cream for the journey.. .pistachio and coconut… love it!.We walked through a neat graffiti covered street done by some very talented artists I must say.We were then side-tracked by an acrobat school that was set up along one of the main streets. We watched the performers for about an hour before heading home to the hostel.
The rest of the evening was pretty low key.Lachlan had to move his stuff from a mates place to his cousin's who lives in the suburbs of Melbourne, so I helped with that and then we headed back into the city centre. We grabbed a beer at the bar across the street from my hostel and then called it a night.
