Day Seven:Thursday May 27th 2010
Today we packed up and checked out of our hotel.Shannon and Emilee had an early flight so we headed to the airport and dropped them off for noon.Wayan and I continued south to Nusa Dua, which is known for its beach and water sport activities.I had just signed up for a glass bottom boat and turtle island tour when it began to rain. The great thing about Bali rain is that it goes as quickly as it comes.I waited 5 minutes and then I was on my own boat en route to the turtle island. Here I was able to hold a scale turtle and various other animals including an eagle, python, green turtle and look at iguanas, hawks, parrots, bats, squirrels (wasn't really sure why they had these…) and toucans. It was a cool experience, but I couldn't help but feel bad for the poor animals cooped up in what looked to be adequate (if that!) living conditions.
After the tour, I spent about an hour relaxing on the beach finishing the last section of my novel, which just happened to take place in Bali. Our next stop was the temple in Uluwatu. Here I had to wear a piece of material tied at my waist as a notion of respect while I walked through the temple. This temple is well known for its sneaky monkeys who love to steal items from tourists and can be cheeky!Luckily, I think I had my fair share at the monkey forest and was left alone at the temple. The view over the ocean was amazing from the temple. It was then off to the airport.I said my final goodbyes to Wayan and thanked him for his help.He made sure to tell me that he would appreciate me telling anyone who I know that visits Bali about him… so if you are planning on visiting let me know and I'll hook you up with a sweet driver!
My flight into Perth was a good one… lucked out again and sat beside no one!(But I guess that's what you can expect on a half empty flight that arrives in Perth at 1:45am!)Overall, Bali was a great time.A few more days would have been nice, but exams are calling my name!
Sama sama (with pleasure),
Leah
