Our first night bus actually went pretty smoothly! After watching a couple of films we both settled down to sleep at around 11pm. I slept through till the bus stopped to drop some people off at 4am and then slept a bit more until just before we were dropped off at 7am. Shane didn't get quite as much sleep as I did, but luckily when we arrived at our hotel we were able to check in at 9.30, so didn't have to wait too long to go to our room where Shane had a bit of a nap!
Our main reason for coming to Hue is for the DMZ tour and we booked this at reception along with a German guy who also arrived with us. We are booked onto a group bus tour, which I know can sometimes be a bit full on and rushed, but we don't really have the time or money to sort a private tour. Hopefully this will be good though and we should be able to see all the war history and sites we want to!
We are only staying in Hue two nights, so will be leaving the day after the tour so we also had a quick look into how to travel in to Hoi An. The road there is supposed to have some incredible views and places to stop, which you can miss on a normal bus or costs loads to do as an en route tour. However, another option is a one way bike rental. This involves our bags being sent on separately and then us renting a bike that we can then leave in Hoi An. This is the cheapest way for us to see everything along the way and it also means we aren't just spending most of a day sat on a bus. I'm actually pretty excited about it!
After we had showered and Shane had caught up on some sleep we headed out to see the citadel or forbidden city. This is a big palace complex in the centre of Hue. It was pretty incredible as there was something to see around every corner. However, both of us were pretty walked out from our time in Hanoi, so we tried to see most of it before our feet and legs felt like they had had enough!
We have an early start for our tour tomorrow so we are having a quiet night making the most of the buy one get one free pizza in the restaurant opposite our hotel!
