Today we got up to check out of our room and try and find a bike to rent!
As we walked out of the hotel a woman opposite called over to ask us whether we wanted a bike. We figured we would go and see how much and ten minutes and five dollars later, with no paperwork or deposit, we were off!
We drove for an hour through Danang before reaching the foot of the mountain pass. We stopped here for a bit to just look at the incredible view of the mountains through the clouds. We then headed up onto the bit of road we had been so disappointed about missing in the way here. It was totally worth backtracking for! The road winds through the mountains and the clouds, opening up every so often to give you incredible views of the coast, beach and forests.
It took us about an hour to reach the other side where we sat and chatted to a local about different currencies while taking in the view of the beach and the new bridge leading to the tunnel.
Then we turned around and did it all over again! The best thin about the road being closed the other day was that we got to drive the Hai Van Pass twice, and it was just as stunning on the way back!
Once we reached the other side we decided to head to the beach by Hoi An, where we stopped for some lunch. Once we had eaten we took off our shoes and went for a walk in the sand, enjoying being on a beach in the sun for the first time in ages!
At about 3pm we headed back into town for a bit of a wander and then back to the hotel to charge everything up before our night bus to Nha Trang. Our transfer arrived at 5.30 in the form of a woman on a moped who we followed to the bus! We are now settled in and driving around Hoi An picking people up! It's about a 12 hour journey, but we kind of hope it might be longer so it's not too early when we arrive!
