Today we did the trip to S21 and the killings fields. Both of us knew about this part of Cambodian history and what both places were used for but nothing prepares you for actually seeing it in person.
Both places were so beautiful and peaceful it is hard to imagine the torture and death that happened there. Pretty much the whole morning and afternoon we were visiting the two sites I felt either sick or like I was about to cry.
There aren't really words to describe what it is like being in the places where these horrific things happened, but I'm glad that we did it. It is amazing how the people of this country have overcome something so awful and after meeting and talking to some of the locals you have to have so much respect for them.
It was an eye opening experience and one I will never forget which will definitely have an impact on the rest of my time in this country and probably well beyond that.
