Today, our last day in York, we started bright and early to fit in a much as we could on another beautiful warm and sunny day. We wandered around further, enjoying the quiet streets while everyone recovered from late nights. We went to the Castle Museum, detailing York though the centuries, taking you into the old prison and giving us a glimpse of the Castle before it was severely damaged and fell to ruin.
We also visited the much anticipated York Minster. While the current cathedral began construction around the 1300s, the site itself has housed very important buildings for the Romans, Vikings and Normans - which you can see in the crypt and undercroft. Thus they have spent hundreds of years constructing the stunning building that stands today. We were lucky enough to hear the York Minster choir practicing for the Evensong session. We also made our legs burn with a climb up the tower to see the beautiful views of York and beyond.
Even though our feet feel ready to drop off, we have loved York and it's beautifully preserved history. Thankfully no WWII bombs fell on the city centre so even medieval history is preserved. The buildings, footpaths, shops, sites, accommodation, atmosphere and people are just so lovely, we'll be sorry to leave tomorrow morning.
