Lauren & Justins Adventure
Hi Guys,
hope you are all doing well. We travelled from Satun in Thailand across the boarder to Malaysia. Our first stop was Penang, this is an island off the main land conacted by a bridge that is 13km long. We spent our time visiting Penang Hill (which you have to go up in stages on a hill train, which is very steep) and the rest of our time on the beautiful beaches. Lauren went parasailing behind a speed boat and Justin became friends with a very large python called Tarzan (see pics).
Next we traveled to the Cameron Highlands. We spent about two days in the highlands and it was very different to the rest of Malaysia, the main difference was the weather. Because of the altitude of the Highlands it was very wet and cold. (when I say cold I mean 15 Degrees)
We visited a tea plantation and factory, butterfly farm, and sampled the local produce. (They grow alot of strawberries here and there is a strawberry dish on every menu - they even sell inflatable strawberries.)
We tried a local dish called the 'Steam Boat', which consists of a big metal bowl containing a soup base on a gas hob in the middle of the table, the rest of the ingrediants (jelly fish, squid, chicken etc) were brought out raw. The dish is shared between a few people and everyone uses a laddle to cook their chosen items. This is a fun meal even if you don't like all the ingrediants (Justin likes the Jelly fish, but says it is chewy).
The best way to describe our visit to the Cameron Highlands is, average; been there, seen it and not in a hurry to return.
From the Cameron Highlands we travelled 6 hours by coach to Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. KL is a very modern city with alot of shopping plaza's and some amazing buildings (The shops making it popular with the girls).
We visited the famous twin towers, which is one of the largest towers in the world. They are extremely impressive!
We also visited the Menara tower, the view of KL 272m up made for some great photos which you will see v shortly.
The malls in KL are like nothing you have ever seen, there is one called 'Times Square', which has the largest indoor rollar coster in the world, we took a photo have a look. The floors go up and up and up and up etc......, we got lost a few times. All in all KL is a cool city.
From KL we drove 2 hours to the historic city of Melaka, we thought that this would be just a little town in the middle of nowhere, which had not much to offer, but it was a nice surprise and was the most European City we had seen due to the fact it was ruled by Portugal, Denmark and England thoughout its history. We visited the Maritime museum, which was inside a massive ship and had many model ships from different countries inside that used to trade on the staits of Melaka, We also visited the Beauty Museum, which has nothing to do with Melaka, but showed all the different processes people go through, to look what is percieved as 'pretty', e.g . lip plates and feet binding.
Our next stop is Singapore a six hour drive from Melaka, we will update you from there lots of love J+L xxx
