We awoke to horrendously noisy pouring rain, after a night of more war sirens! The rain unfortunately ruining our plans for the day to go and see the 'Lady Knox' Geyser (20metres natural jet of hot water) at Wai-O-Tapu. However the rain did not want this to happen
So we decided to head towards Taupo and see what was there, on our way we found the Huka Falls, a river of white water rapids with a waterfall where 200, 000 litres of water pours over every second! Very noisy but beautiful to see. There wasn't alot more to see at all so we went into central Taupo where we treated ourselves to an indian for lunch and Josh had a haircut as it was starting to get scarily ginger and long. So the colour is almost back to normal at this point. We also fed lots of ducks and birds out of the side of the van which was very entertaining throwing bits of bread and letting the birds fly up and catch it if they were clever.
We decided our best option was to stay ahead of ourselves so we carried on driving, i say we josh carried on driving, all the way to Wellington putting us a day ahead of ourselves. When we got to the outskirts of Wellington we stocked up on food and found the equivalent of the cheapest campsite around with a lovely owner and very sweet dog.
We also discovered there was alot of strange people living at the campsite as regulars, a very strong maori man who really enjoyed watching pretty woman! a guy who had left Christchurch who seemed to know everything and everyone, and a strange woman who wore so many jackets and layers and stared so much she was almost the equivalent of a ridiculously small eskimo.
Anddd....today i drove the van, very exciting, round and round the can park, good practice for when i decided to brave the roads.
