After a night full of war alarm sirens, turly horrific. We headed to Rotorua in search of thermal wonders, geysers and natural hot pools.
After a moderately long drive by Josh (i still hadn't had the confidence to get behind the wheel of our space shuttle), we arrive in a small city, practically clear sky, warm and sunny! :) However this nice partially industrial town was overrun by the smell of sulphur, basically rotten egg odours spewing out of steam grates! trying to find a place called 'haka world' became interesting with the smells becoming so over-powering we got to a point where we almost couldn't be bothered. However 'haka world' was supposed to be great where you could dress up in typical maori dress and learnthe 'Haka', which to those who don't know what that is it's the traditional dance the All Blacks, New Zealand rugby team do before all major matches, however our attempts to find this place were futile, as it didnt not seem to actually exist, so we went in search of the skyline gondola and luge.
After having snacks out of our portable kitchen we ascended the gondola to some incredible views! We then donned some unflattering headgear, far too large for our heads and definetly not safety wear in any way! We placed ourselves upon what would be best described as a large, easier to steer skateboard; and raced down hills, round bends racing over-taking each other, undertaking mostly me being the sore loser in these incidents!
We had bought a multi-tickets so this included 4D cinema which we thought would be great fun and actually pretty good, it was in a giant UFO and we wore awful 3D glasses the graphics were pants and i think it made josh feel pretty ill so we decided we wouldnt be doing something like that again!!
We found a quaint little fishing campsite we attempted to research hot pools etc. but they didnt seem to be accesible to money saving backpackers so we decided to read, as luging was hard work....
What was in store for us that night was not something that i would have wished for in any sort of way....
