After our late night star spotting at the Neighbours night, we weren't feeling too clever this morning! We were off to the beach to recover, but first we went online and put a few photos on Facebook - still feels a bit surreal!
We walked towards the beach, stopping to buy some lunch on the way. Our first sight of St Kilda beach and pier impressed us. There's a boardwalk alongside the beach and people were sat sunbathing on the grass and the path as well as the sand. Dave went for a wander further along the front, while I relaxed on the grass. It's a good place to people-watch, and the sun was shining so I was happy. When Dave got back we went to one of the cafes for a few drinks (non-alcoholic!), and read our books. We walked back towards the hostel, stopping at Aldi on the way to buy food for the next few days.
That night in the hostel was open mic night, so after tea we settled ourselves on one of the sofas to watch the performers. However, only one guy sang - he was a Canadian called Evan, and by the sounds of it he's been here a while and regularly sings. He was very good and played the guitar and sang well. He even sang one of his own songs that wasn't bad. The hostel provided free 'goon' punch, which Dave had a glass of but I decided not to! 'Goon' is the cheapest drink here, available in supermarkets and liquor stores - it's basically a 4-litre box of wine and costs about a fiver! A backpacker staple item!
After the Evan show had finished, we went on the computer and booked our greyhound buses and hostels for the week between mam and dad leaving and us getting to Sydney. We also booked our tickets for a new Harry Potter exhibition that has just opened in Sydney - it looks very good!
