We woke up early to pack up the bus then we drove the short distance to Monument Valley where we went on a jeep tour round some of the monuments. Our tour guides were two of the natives who live there and they were brilliant; they stopped at all of the main viewpoints and explained what the different monuments represented in their culture. The hjghlight of the tour was when we stopped at a big natural dome in the rocks with a hole in thetop called the 'sun's eye'. We all lay against the rocks looking up or with our eyes closed and our guides sang us some of their traditional songs - another pinch-me moment! Before we left i bought a necklace from one of the stalls. The older women of the navajo indian tribe make most of this jewellery and there were some gorgeous things, but I limited myself to one item under $10!
After Monument Valley we drove to Lake Powell for a swim stop. We stayed there for a few hours and everyone enjoyed cooling off in the water! I even managed to sneakily wash my hair but shhh!
The bus drove into Page, Arizona and parked up for a few hours before our second night drive of the trip to The Grand Canyon. We had to be back by 11pm so first headed to an American diner for some cheap grub and then headed to the karaoke bar the drivers had recommended! We had an amazing night at that bar, mainly because a massive pitcher of beer was $5! We couldn't get a pint for that in New York! Later on more of our group arrived and we took over the karaoke for the night. The highlight of the night was Louise, one of the Aussie girls, singing Eminem 'Lose Yourself' with breakdancing in the middle!
We got back to the bus in time to perform the 'Miracle' and for us to make sure we were NOT sleeping in the cave again! We got two spots on the back platform and slept pretty well. It was strange to think that when we woke up we'd be in The Grand Canyon!
